How to Clean Goose Down and Fibre Pillows & Duvets
For quality sleep, cleaning and storing your pillows and duvets correctly matters just as much as choosing comfortable ones. Goose down and fibre products in particular need special care because of their delicate structure. The wrong methods can damage the product’s shape and shorten its life.
So what should we keep in mind to make these products last?
☀️ 1. Air Them Daily
Airing your pillow and duvet every morning helps prevent moisture, odours and bacteria.
Sunlight acts as a natural disinfectant.
🧼 2. How Often to Wash
- Goose down products: once a year
-
Fibre products: once every 6 months
Washing frequency should follow the product’s care label. Washing too often can cause loss of loft and shape.
🌀 3. Machine Washing Goose Down and Fibre Products
- Wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle
- Choose a washing machine with a large drum
- Rinse thoroughly
- But most importantly: dry it properly! If you don’t have a tumble dryer, don’t wash it!
🌬️ 4. Drying
- A tumble dryer is essential
- Dry the product in 4–5 cycles
- Take it out and shake it out after each cycle
- Use dryer balls
Otherwise, odours, yellowing and clumping of the filling may occur.
🧺 5. Dry Cleaning
Goose down products are not suitable for washing at home. The safest method is professional dry cleaning.
Incorrect washing can ruin the product’s shape.
📦 6. Storage Tips
- Do not iron
- Do not use vacuum bags
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place
These tips help your products last for years.
